U12s Prep For National Finals

2017 u12

In 6 days time some of the youngest players at the Buccaneers will be competing at the sports UK finals for a chance of winning the national crown.  The U12s are the current national champions after winning all four matches at the championship in Sheffield in September last year.

This will be the 7th year in a row in which the Buccaneers have reached the national finals at this age group.  During this time they have won the title twice; in 2014 and 2016.

The Opposition

The team know the standard of competition at finals will be high.  They are undefeated on the season, but so are the Waveney Wolves who are the number one ranked team in the country, if the Bucs are to win the title then they will have to give Waveney their first defeat, which is a tough task.  Waveney have already beaten last years finalists, London Blitz, several times throughout the year.  They have reguarly scored more than 50 points a game and are certainly favourites to take the title.

The Bucs will find more fierce competion in their friendly northern conference rivals The Leicester Huntsmen.  This year the Bucs are 2-0 against Leics having played them in Studley and Coventry.  Leicester are a strong team with several offensive threats who can break games open.  The Bucs defence will need to be on form in order to stop them.

The fourth team on the day is London Warriors.  The popular London club have not been at finals for a few years so little is known about their play, but like their Southern counter parts Waveney, they have put up big scores all year and will be a tough task for the Bucs,

The RedBeard Squad

This years squad is one of the biggest redbeard squads of recent years.  They have many experienced players in their ranks and they have been training hard in preparation for the competion.

Record Breaking

As well as this marking the 7th year the Buccaneers will be competing at finals it is also the 7th year in a row one of the U12 players will take part in the day.  Daniel Schofield has been a member of the team throughout this 7 year period.  To be playing in his 7th national final aged 12 is quite incredible.

Daniel Schofield

If you were guessing the age of a UK player making his 7th appearance at a national finals you may be thinking early thirties, perhaps even late twenties.  Not many would guess 12 years of age.  it goes without saying it's an incredible achievement.

Daniel played an intergral part to the championship winning team in 2014 aged just 9.  Last year, as a six year veteran he was impressive on both sides of the ball.

Good Luck

As the date apporaches we of course wish Daniel and the rest of the team luck this Saturday.  Play with pride and passion in the true spirit of the Buccaneers.
